Youthwork year 2014: part 1/4

It's time to think about what happened during the first six months of Inari and my youth work year 2014. Let's do it in foreign language and let's give to the memory of my personal Lumia the role to inform. In January the sun suddenly appeared one day as it always does. It's a day when everybody up here has a good day.
Big weekend in the end of January. Was really cool that Sámi Parliament Youth Council and Inari Youht Council together hosted the Lapland Youth forum in the sámish culture center Sajos. I have seen a couple of these, this was one among the best during the history of this forum. We had guests: Mr Pink young fabulous ladies from Murmansk and one cool guy from ungdosmshuset Huset Alta. Really nice. Not only speaking about Bareantsian co-operation, meeting persons is more. Forum was success, pretty many people and it's cool because the trip to Ivalo from Rovaniemi seems to be lot of longer than the trip from Inari to Rovaniemi...
Quite many times here. Last weekend of January we had one of the biggest and most important weekends this year. Time flies: youth center in Riutula has been already for 20 years and as Vasatokka for 10 years. Celebrations and the opening ceremonies of the new sports hall in same package.

Year 2014 is the last one with Connecting Young Barents (CYB) -Project.  We have a good network with Alta, Murmansk, Tornio and Inari partners. Lot of trust, respect, effort and positive experience with co-operation. Maybe because of this it was quite easy to make an extra RajaRock in Vasatokka with all those other events during same weekend.

Alternative for driving to Rovaniemi or wheresoever and back. We in our municipality have a good one, video conference room. I tried to use it a couple of times. Really interesting to be a chairman of a steering group. Sitting in Ivalo while others in Helsinki, Tornio, Rovaniemi, Salla.... Saving time and euros.
In January we opened a new room to make youth work. I thought we made all but Ronja with youngsters made a new one to Ivalo Upper Comprehensive School. Cool... Worth to go school and be a part of it.
We started our Selvä Keli radioshow on the air version for Radio Inari again. The program was silent for one and half year but parish youth workers Mari and Tauno + me wanted to try again. This time program about youngsters, youht workers, youth issues etc. was every second thursday. It was really  cool. Maybe we continue in the autumn, we'll see, or better to say we'll listen, stay tuned.
Youth Council of Finnish Sàmi Parliament has done pretty good work.  It is a good partner at least for Inari Municipal youth council. I hope that all youth councils at least in the area of Finnish Sámi Region would recognize this. We have common things to fight for here in the upmost North. So it really makes sense to co-operate.

In february I took part to a ceminar dealing with equality. Nice one, it was in Sajos powered by Sámi Parliament Youth Council. Only thing which I noticed was the fact that there were no Sàmi Parliament members at present. Pity because of good discussions. But we have to remember: it took almost 10 years to get good connections between Inari municipal parliament and youngsters. Free advice: worth to try in the future...
Inari is a strange municipality. There have been rockgroups all the time I remember. Only now when not so many youngsters living in municipality, it's a bit different. Now we have rehersal rooms, concerts, possibilities for gigs abroad, even a music studio at our mediaworkshop in Ivalo. But something missing: rock groups and audience.

A big paradox. But anyway: though no groups, a lot of musicians. We had Osallisuusorkesteri and Cup Girls from Inari village having gigs during Rjarock in January. So in the end of March we arranged a cource for rockers in Vintti Inari. And what happened: 14 rockers. A big success and a really nice weekend. Hannu and Emma did good work and the youngsters: they want more. And finally a group to send abroad: Johannes Kastanja...!!!
During whole spring our basic services, youth clubs Stönö in Ivalo and Vintti in Inari and of cource our mediaworkshop functioned. Without these and marvellous Inari youngsters there would be nothing. All is based on these. In fact everything is based on Stönö in Ivalo. It's the oldiest, it's the start for everything, since 1984. We must remember this....

Lots of other issues happened too. And this was only the beginning of the year 2014. More comes later before holiday..
