Okay... It's finally time to ROCK!!! This update will be written at Tornio Music House just before and during the great RajaRock 2013 mainconcert. Picture material is sofar just taken and the feelings based on Just here and just now -effect, a kind of on-line blogging. First time with this blog ever, cool...
RajaRock is a now during 2012 - 14 a part of Enpi Kolarctic -supported Connecting Young Barents project... RajaRock is also an independant rock event, maybe one of the oldest in Lapland which is ment to be a possibility for youngsters' rockgroups to climb up on stage and to get guidance to their music by professional musicians. First of this event ever was played in Utsjoki village in August 1989. So we noticed a while ago that if RajaRock still exists after this Tornio - Haaparanta På Gränsen event, so it will have a celebration year: 25 anniversary event coming.
Via CYB -project or via other discussions the future is unsure. Actually there hasn't been any discussions about the coming years: where, by whom, with which money and so on. All the important issues are open. Nobody knows...
In fact we've however already decided in Inari on behalf of all at least one thing: there will be a celebration concert in January 2014 at Vasatokka Youth Center new sporthall. We'll put many things together: RajaRock 25 -year anniversary concert as a part of opening ceremonies of new hall and as a part of Youth Center Inari/Vasatokka 20 -year anniversary year. Big concert at the same time with Skabmagovat sámish film festival. Plans go so that all the groups which are invited to stage must have a kind of connection to Inari.
So our network partners will be in: Murmansk, Tornio, Alta, Inari of cource... We discussed about this at Nuorkka, Tornio Youth House, when the project had steering group meeting. All the partners said that it's a really good idea. So, no possibilities to step backwards. We are already looking forward to January 2014. In a cottage at open fire the the whole network can discuss about RajaRock future. Cool... I think 2014 won't be the end of the story. Anyway I hope...
Musichouse rocking...
Now here RajaRock started to rock... Start was a success: connecting young Lapland show. Punkmusic powered by Pekka the drummer from Inari, Aki and Miku the singers from Tornio, Juuso the guitarhero from Sevettijärvi and finally Jaakko the bassplayer from Tornio. Really cool: they decided to do this performance just three hours before concert. And of cource: they had never played together, some of the musicians never played punk. But the result was fantastic seen from this perspective. Crazy people make big stories and maybe this is the best part of RajaRock history and CYB -project too. You just must believe....
It's like Inari municipal youth council band Osallisuusorkesteri. In a short period four youth council members created a band, of cource they had never played together. Of cource they come from different parts of Inari: Juuso from Sevettijärvi, basist Sanna from Kaamanen, drummer Pekka from Inari village and finally other guitarplayer Ronni from Ivalo. Singer comes from Saariselkä but couldn't take part to Tornio event. But later we'll see a five musician Osallisuusorkesteri. Really well done I must say... Crazyness is something which makes things possible. We adults should always remember this, and trust on youngsters. It's like Norwegian Alta Huset style to do youth work: youngsters are a possibility, not any problem.
It was really cool to see Osallisuusorkesteri on real stage, good equipments and a lot of audience. Atmosphere in the hall promises a lot for coming rest evening. Good bands will climb on stage... Let's enjoy Barentsian youth rockmusic... It still exists.
Youth Houses in progress at Kola Peninsula
One of the practical partners in CYB -project is Murmansk Youth House Mr. Pink. I have known already before that their aim is to help youngsters in other Nortwestern Russia cities to create youth houses like Mr. Pink. To create a new way to think about youngster's wellfare and future and not only think but act.
So it has been cool to notice that there has started a similiar youth house like Mr. Pink in Apatity. Like Natasha the vicepresident said in the afternoon at Aineen Taidemuseo in a matchmaking event: "Now we have a small brother, Mr. Orange in Apatity. And the work continues to create more youth houses...."
That is really great. Respect for this. And hope for success in creating it. It's not so easy...
